of concerned citizens motivated to positively influence the evolution
of our community.
The primary goal of the AptosVillage.Org is to inform
the residence of our wonderful community about the proposed high
density housing development being planned for Aptos Village.

The beauty that abounds here in Santa Cruz county has international
appeal.The growth of the world's population has created an enormous
demand for housing. There is pressure at the state and national
levels for counties to absorb this growth . Counties are responding
by rezoning to accommodate the growth in some cases by changing
the historic zoning of properties from green .. to multi tenant
single family and or apartment buildings. Santa Cruz County is
no exception to this practice.
The economic incentives of property owners, developers, real
estate agents, and mortgage brokers have little respect for rural
communities and why the current residents chose to live there.The
impact to those of us who live here? How about, increased traffic,
crowded beaches, impossible parking, loss of open space,
need for increased security, and a regretful general degradation
in quality of life.
The Aptos Village Plan is undergoing a major transformation that
has provisions allowing for multi-tenant apartment buildings up
to three stories with a total of up to 400 bedrooms.
The traffic impact of at least 300 additional cars whose access
to Highway 1 is restricted to a single lane each way due to the
Aptos Creek Bridge and the Railroad overpasses will be an unpleasant
wake up call when residents suddenly fine it taking 20 minutes
to reach Hwy 1 when it used to take five.
The purpose of Aptos Village.org is to get people
informed and involved in the development plans that are in process
or are being contemplated. With sufficient involvement it is possible
for the organization to positively affect proposed housing developments
or even to strategically purchase properties that could be committed
to benefit the community.
Aptos Village.org needs and welcomes the talents of the community
such as Village/City Planners willing to get involved in the development
of the village. Legal advisers to review in depth what the current
zoning is for the parcels and the zoning changes being proposed
and the adverse affects of increased density.
The Current plan is a developers dream which will financially
benefit a few and does not even create a suitable Village Common
for community members to gather.
The proposed Village plan is being architect ed by Barry Swenson.
Among other drastic measurers, It moves the Village Antique building
from its current position to one that allows for a 3 story Apartment
Building.
The proposed plan offers the community a measly 8000 square feet
green that has 3 story building looming over it along 2 sides.
Aptos is a wonderful place to live. We need to come together
as a community to make sure that the development of the Aptos
Village creates a Village that benefits the community.
Get community involvement from all of us that will be impacted
by the high density development plans that are being crafted for
the open spaces. Create a "Watch Dog" component of the
organization that proactively researches the development plans
of the Aptos Village and the former Par 3 property.
Let's work together to keep the Aptos Village area wonderful
and unique. Aptos Village.org strives to assure that the development
of our community is done with taste and style, creates an ambiance
that brings young and old together, and balances profit with quality
of life.
